After two years of closures and restrictions, it looks like we’re heading into a fun summer when it comes to travel. Unfortunately, the energy price hike in the cost of airline tickets is already beginning to be felt.
So here you are now that you’ve saved up for your much-awaited vacation only to discover that not only will your ticket price tag you, but it will cost you a small fortune to leave your car at the airport.
Airport parking is big business
Have you ever wondered why parking at the airport costs? The reason is very simple as airport parking is run like a business. First, there’s the initial cost of the land, then the construction costs. Once built, whether it’s a multi-storey car park or just an outdoor paved car park, it needs to be maintained. You need to hire people to make sure everything runs smoothly and pay for electricity to keep it safe. Airport operators, many of which are private companies, also know that parking at the airport is more convenient and that they will always have a captive audience because of this.

Among the most expensive to park your car is London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at $236.81 for a week. This is followed by Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) at $233.30 for a week. When looking at airport parking prices around the world, the cost of parking your car at an airport in the US is not very expensive outside of major cities. Parking at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is the most expensive in the country, with its operator, Massport charging $25 per day.
Public transportation to the airport
Some of the newer airports in the world and those that are well planned have dedicated railway or metro stations that allow you to travel to the airport using public transportation. This is an excellent option if you live in the city where the airport is located, but not so good if you are traveling from an area where there is no train or metro.
If you live in the USA or another country where Uber operates, this could be an excellent option to get to or from the airport. Cheaper than a taxi and faster than a bus, Uber offers a service called Uber XL that ensures you will be picked up in an SUV or minibus that seats at least six passengers.

A dedicated airport shuttle is another excellent option for people in countries that don’t allow flight sharing apps. A driver will come to your house and drive you to the airport. On your return, the driver will be in the arrivals area of the airport, holding a sign with your name on it. They will then help you take your luggage to the car and drive you home.
The important advantages of using an airport shuttle is knowing the full cost in advance and that someone will be at the airport waiting for you when you arrive home. In addition, you feel like a VIP by having a chauffeur waiting for you at the airport.

Consider standing in an off-site parking
Well, let’s say you have no other choice but to drive to the airport and park your car while you are away. The first thing you need to do is look for long lasting parking signs. Generally this is too far from the building from the short term car park, and depending on the distance you may need to take a shuttle bus to get from the car park to the building.
Many airports have a second, and often much less expensive, way to leave your car at the airport, which is independent off-site car parks. The off-site private spaces are located around the perimeter of the airport, and provide a shuttle service between the parking lot and the terminal. You park in their parking lot, get off the keys, and take a minibus to the airport. On your return, once your plane has landed, call the center, and they will have a transportation waiting for you to take you to your car.
