AAPs offer free energy in troubled Gujarat BJP chief: Kejriwal – Business Standard

Arvind Kejriwal, AAP National Assembly member, on Friday sought to find out from the BJP why his offer to provide free electricity to the people of Gujarat was “disturbing” to the Saffron party even as he claimed ministers in the western state were enjoying free power supplies.

Addressing a blow to CR Patil, the BJP’s Gujarat chief, for allegedly taking free snapshots given by “some leaders” in the state, the chief minister of Delhi said, in order to provide free electricity, corruption must be ended.

Without naming the AAP or Kejriwal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief in Gujarat on Thursday reportedly warned people not to be swayed by the free offers by “some political leaders”, warning that they were not good for the economy and that free gifts could destroy the state.

Patel was reportedly addressing a gathering after dedicating the opening of the South Gujarat Institute of Medical Education and Research in Surat.

In Hindi, Kejriwal tweeted in response to media reports: “Patil Sahib, your ministers are getting free electricity, is that right? You are causing a lot of trouble if you provide free electricity to the public.”

He added, “There is massive corruption in the government of Gujarat. Put an end to corruption like Delhi and Punjab, a lot of money will be made to provide free electricity to the public.”

Addressing a rally organized by his party in Rajkot earlier this month, Kejriwal also promised improved schools and hospitals, and free pilgrimages for elderly people on air-conditioned trains to various religious places, including Ayodhya, if the AAP is voted in to power in Gujarat.

Accusing the BJP of “failure” on multiple fronts during its nearly three-decade rule in Gujarat, the BJP’s National Congress has asked the people to give his party a chance to rule the state.

Parliament elections are likely to take place in Gujarat later this year.
