ComEd Takes Steps to Implement Certified Expansion of Energy Efficiency Programs – Business Wire

Chicago–(work wire) — ComEd on Wednesday filed a request with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), which regulates the state’s public utilities, seeking a $50 million cost recovery that would support expanded programs to help customers reduce their energy use and bills and contribute to a cleaner, cleaner environment. The cost increase will support the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), the state’s new energy law, and energy efficiency approved by the International Trade Commission (ComEd) for four years. planwhich significantly increases funding for programs that benefit low-income clients.

If approved, the request will add about 30 cents to ComEd’s average monthly residential customer bill starting in January 2023. For the first time, ComEd programs include measures by residential and commercial customers to electrify vehicles or processes that would otherwise require fossil fuels. ComEd will launch pilot projects this year, including an offer for Income-Eligible (IE) customers to fully electrify their homes with HVAC systems, water heating, home appliances and necessary electrical upgrades. ComEd will increase electricity opportunities over four years and plans to spend an average of $10 million annually on solutions for IE customers, who earn at or below 80 percent of the region’s average income.

Last year, more than 15,000 ComEd customers took advantage of ComEd’s Free Home Energy Assessment, which includes a customized report and free installation of energy-efficient products, such as LED lights, advanced power strips, low-flow shower heads, hot water pipe insulation, bathroom aerators, and more. In coordination with local natural gas utilities, ComEd also offers customers discounts on installing high-efficiency equipment, including air conditioning and weather systems. Business and public sector customers can take advantage of a wide range of energy efficiency services and incentives, including free utility assessments and greater incentives available to customers in ComEd communities most in need.

CEJA also encourages diverse businesses and service providers to co-deliver ComEd energy efficiency programs, which ComEd will follow through its New Market Development Initiative that will be funded at a level of $4 million annually over four years.
